Part 41: Kansas City

I left work and headed to Mendota, Illinois to catch the Amtrak train coming through later in the afternoon. I had credit on my Amtrak account that I needed to use. I parked my rig at the train station and boarded Southwest Chief for a weekend in Kansas City. The train ride went smooth until it fell behind schedule on the approach to Kansas City. We arrived almost an hour late. I navigated through the impressive Union Station in Kansas City and found my way to a nearby stop for the KC Streetcar. I rode the streetcar to the Power And Light District and got off at the Hampton Inn where I would be staying for the night.

I checked in and took a quick shower. I then wandered the streets looking for nightlife. It was below freezing, and downtown was very dead for midnight on a Friday. I wandered past Bazooka's Showgirls and Temptations, but I wasn't in the mood for peelers. I headed north over Interstate 70 to the Power & Light District, which I had heard good things about over the years. It also seemed to be pretty dead. After getting a couple miles of walking in, I retreated back to the Hampton Inn and passed out on the bed in short order.

The view from the Mendota Amtrak station.

The KC Streetcar stop just outside of Union Station. The WWI Memorial is in the right background.
